Punjab Launches Massive Urban Road Rehabilitation
Punjab Launches Massive Urban Road Rehabilitation Drive to Fuel Economic Growth
The vision of the Punjab Road Sector Policy is to Develop, Upgrade, Augment, and Maintain a modern road network in the province that can effectively contribute towards economic and social development of the province. In line with this strategic framework, the Punjab government has accelerated a massive road rehabilitation and urban development program across 51 major cities, backed by a monumental Rs 1.24 trillion Annual Development Plan. This infrastructure initiative prioritizes the reconstruction of dilapidated urban arteries, the expansion of high-traffic corridors like the Rawalpindi Ring Road, and the modernization of transit systems in hubs like Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan. By integrating high-grade asphalt surfacing with smart traffic management and enhanced safety protocols, the province is creating a seamless connectivity web designed to reduce logistics costs, minimize travel times, and boost provincial GDP.
This wide-scale highway and local road restoration project, under the 'Sarakain Bahal, Punjab Khushhal' vision, serves as a catalyst for socio-economic mobility by linking industrial zones directly to local markets. The strategic focus on sustainable infrastructure and signal-free corridors is transforming Punjab’s urban landscape into a world-class transit hub, ensuring that both rural and metropolitan areas benefit from safer, more efficient transport. As authorities implement daily monitoring to ensure timely completion by mid-2026, these advancements in Pakistan's transport sector are set to redefine urban living standards and provide a robust foundation for long-term provincial prosperity and industrial growth.
